Shared Space is a series of hand-printed photographs inspired by my recently released book Recover & Release. Photographs were made in rescue facilities, wildlife refuges, and protected areas. The photographs for this exhibition are printed in platinum/palladium or vellum over gold leaf.

I just visited the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in Decatur, Alabama where thousands of Sandhill Cranes spend the winter, arriving late in November and staying into February. I learned about this place years ago during a workshop with Tillman Crane while I was working on “A Southern Diary”. I didn’t have much time then, or an appropriate lens, and I have been wanting to get back there since. The birds have about 35,000 acres to themselves, but fortunately, several thousand were close to visitor viewing areas.

I’m pleased that “Sing Your Song” has been included in Perspective’s Gallery’s January exhibition Connection/Disconnection. “Sing Your Song” is from my current project, Recover & Release, which is about our connection to the wildlife in our communities.
